The third session in Richmond Public Library’s Parent Information series takes place on April 6th

Parent Information Sessions

Support Your Child’s Education

Richmond, BC – Richmond Public Library is pleased to announce another installment of

its successful series of programs dedicated to helping parents understand the school

system. Presented in partnership with Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) and

Richmond School District 38, these registered Parent Information Sessions take place

at the Brighouse (Main) branch at 100 – 7700 Minoru Gate on the following dates:

  •  Thursday, February 2 nd , 4:00-5:00pm: A Different Time, A Different Curriculum
  •  Thursday, March 9 th : 4:00-5:00pm: Getting Ready For Kindergarten
  •  Thursday, April 6 th : 4:00-5:00pm: Socio-Emotional Aspects of the New
  • Curriculum
  •  Thursday, May 4 th : 4:00-5:00pm: Summer Learning Info Session

“A Different Time, A Different Curriculum” will address ways in which parents can help

their children face the challenges of a new approach to learning. “Getting Ready for

Kindergarten” teaches parents how to prepare preschool children emotionally and

academically for school. “Socio-Emotional Aspects of the New Curriculum” will discuss

how children can learn to effectively deal with emotions and relationships. Finally, the

“Summer Learning Info Session” will inform parents about upcoming summer education

programs.

“Parents have a lot of questions about the new curriculum and preparing their children

for different aspects of school” said librarian Christine McCrea. “They want to help them

get the most out of their education. These programs will be presented by experienced

educators who are focused on these specific areas of learning. Settlement Workers will

also be present to help orient newcomers to B.C.”
